Globe's Duo

Globe recently released the Duo plan. For 399 pesos (good for 30 days) you will be able to make unlimited calls to and recieve unlimited calls from landlines and other Duo subscribers. They will assign a landline number to your globe cell so your phone will have two numbers, one globe cell number and the mobile landline number.

I think it is pretty cool BUT after having experienced the bayan wireless landline, i hesitate to try this. There might be problems calling them or making calls from this service just like the bayan wireless.

After thinking things over, i came up with questions and i asked Globe about it. As regards roaming, once you go on roaming and people try to call your duo landline number, they said that you will get the incorrect number message or call cannot be completed as dialed message. This will give the impression that your phone is busted or they got your number wrong. As regards getting a nice number, youre not assured of it. You will get system assigned numbers since the activation of the service is by SMS. You might also lose that number if you dont renew your service and reactivate later.

Customer service reported that there are some blind spots in the metro for this service and some dialing procedure problems.

I would recommend a wait and see attitude to this service particularly since there is a 90 day lockup period for it with a 1200 pre-termination fee. For urgent needs, go get a PLDT Landline plus. You will need a separate phone but the service is tried and tested .. and cheaper by 99 pesos. Note too that PLDT finally adopted the number portability system of their sister company, Smart. If you lose your phone or if the sim gets busted, you can request for a new sim with the same number as long as you have the proof that the sim was yours (i.e. sim pack, receipt).

Nokia C1

I bought 3 Nokia C1 units because i thought Nokia is still the old Nokia. I was wrong. The C1 is so slow. It takes time to get  to answer calls slow. Also, it has a bug. It will just stop accepting your passkey or pattern and wont let you in. You'll need to bring it to the shop and have them unlock it for you.  Of the 3 units, only 1 works now. One just wont open anymore and the other manifested the bug and i still cant find out where to send it. I also bought a keypad nokia some time ago. After a year, it wont function properly. Nokia is not the nokia of old. I dont think i'll buy any more nokias in the future.

Cherry Mobile battery replacement

Today, our secretary reported that the cherry mobile battery in one of our office phones. They called me while i was in greenhills shopping center. One would think that i can easily find a replacement battery in greenhills of all places. No, no battery in the shopping area, virra mall or even in the cherry mobile store in the theater mall. Yes, their store doesn't carry a battery.

Globe lifestyle plan or else

This is another Globe Telecom rant. I called globe (yes, i still have to deal with them) earlier because i realized that i'm paying them a lot for the office globe phone and i don't get rebates. I know i'm out of contract so i should get rebates. They offer me their new lifestyle plan for 499. Neat right? Wrong. They will NOT give me rebates unless i pay an extra 100 to reach their 599 limit and the rebate they are giving is 125 pesos per month. So technically, they are just giving me 25 pesos rebate per month since we wont be using the extra 100 given that the office also has a sun line and a smart line. Worse, the agent says, the 2 lines of my in laws are out of contract too. I said, "Cool! How much rebate can they get per month?" I was then told that unless i convert those lines to the new plans, there will be no rebates. Even if the lines are used to the cost of thousands each month (by my in laws) they will not be given anything in return. I swear, they
